EG headed back into the Molten Core last night prepped and ready to go a few rounds in the squared circle with the one and only Ragnaros. Just for a warm up we decided to finish off Golemagg and Major Domo (loot added to last update).

We stepped into Rag’s lair with spirits high and blades sharp, ready to take his worst, and give back ten time better. On our first go of the night we set a new personal best:

So close, yet so far away. It was time to go again. The second attempt…well, we won’t talk about that, because uh…it never happened, yeah, that’s the ticket! But really, a few very unlucky circumstances ended in a wipe at an unimpressive point, so I won’t even waste your loading time with a screenshot.

Now for round three. Take a step back, fix what went wrong, resharpen the blades and GO! No mistakes, no unlucky goings on, just pure Rag ass whoopin this time. In the end we fell just short of the final goal of 0% health, but came even closer than before:

Sure this was the house that Rag built, but we hadn’t come all this way to back down, we were gonna drop the champ and dance victoriously over his smoldering corpse before the night was through! So we lined up for another run. Tension and anticipation were running high, but so was the morale. Rag may have bit Dag’s ear off, but that didn’t save Tyson, and it wasn’t gonna save Rag by God!

We launched ourselves at the big red machine with new intensity and resolve, holding nothing back, giving it our all and then some. I’d like to say that in the end we prevailed. But that just wouldn’t be true:

UGH! How painful! So so so close. Yeah, it’s rough to wipe at 1% but it happens to the best of us sometimes I guess.

Recap:

After a good nights rest and some serious farming, EG was ready for another shot at Ragnaros on Sunday night.  We headed in, confident that we would down him this time and bask in the eternal glory that would surely be ours.

After downing Domo again and heading into Rag’s inner sanctum the nerves started to kick up a bit.  It was doable, no question about it. But so many unknowns, so many things that could go wrong…you could cut the tension with a knife.

Finally the time had arrived.  Major Domo summoned Ragnaros and we set about showing him who was really running shit in Molten Core. After a tough battle Rag came out on top once more, with only 1% health again when we wiped.

The second attempt was a bit messy, so we won’t go into great detail, let it suffice to say that it wasn’t quite as close to a victory as the last few attempts had been.

Running low on potions and getting to be a bit late into the night, we decided to give it one last all-out, balls-to-the-walls attempt.

You could see it in his eyes from the beginning, Rag knew that something was different this time.  Maybe it was the confident way we strode towards him on that final attempt, maybe it was the gleam of defiance in our eyes, or the look of a man with nothing more to lose and everything to gain on our battle worn faces.  Whatever the case, we could all sense the inevitable outcome of this final confrontation.

The atmosphere was electric.  The only sounds to be heard were the constant pounding of magical essence and tempered steel against Ragnaros’ fiery body.

We were running short on time.  Only moments before another son spawn would occur.  It’s now or never!  Pour it on!  DOTs DOTs!  Priests too!  GOGOGOGO!

Then…a huge blast of fire where moments ago the fire lord had stood!

As the soot and ash cleared, nothing of the once mighty Ragnaros remained; save for his giant hammer.  As it began to sink slowly into the lava never to be seen by mortal eyes again, we celebrated our victory EG style.

Congrats to everyone who helped down Ragnaros this weekend. Congrats, and a big thanks to everyone who helped us get to this point. It’s not every day that a group of individuals can come together and accomplish something of this magnitude.  There are few feelings quite as good as finishing a task of this size and difficulty, I’m glad I was able to be there when it happened.  I feel privileged to be able stand in the company of players of such dedication and skill, and to bask in the glory of a victory so hard fought for, and so well earned.

So here’s to a job well done, to a journey finally finished, and another that is just about to begin!

We’re giving Rag another run for his money tonight after Golemagg and Domo get downed, and I have to say the odds are no longer in his favor. We got the sons down last time, and we’re even better prepared this time.  News of our stunning victory soon to come!

The Good:

The forums will be back up and running today, much to the delight of all my lady fans   I’m also happy to report that EG had it’s best Rag run to date last night.  With a bit of lag, but no crashes (finally) we managed to get the sons down and put a good dent in the big red machine before he got the best of us in the end.

My prediction:  Next week, his ass is ours.

The Bad:

As was mentioned in the previous post regarding the forum status, there was a possibility of losing the SQL database…well, it happened.  It appears that what happened is that while trouble shooting the issue, when I installed a second copy of the forums, the handy dandy auto install and configure utility offered by the web host made the new database with the same name as to old one.  So our original database with all user IDs and messages was copied over by a nice fresh new blank one!  Ah, how nice a fresh start can be…or not…
